A total of 243 candidates are in the fray for the 28 Assembly constituencies in Odisha where voting will be held on May 13, election officials said on Wednesday.
The nominations of 256 candidates for 28 MLA seats under Nabarangpur, Berhampur, Koraput and Kalahandi Lok Sabha constituencies were found valid after scrutiny. Of the 256 candidates, 13 have withdrawn their nominations, they said.
Now, a total of 243 candidates are in the fray for the first phase of Assembly elections in Odisha.
According to EC officials, the highest 17 candidates are in the fray in the Berhampur assembly segment while 13 candidates are contesting from Digapahandi assembly segment in Ganjam district.
A total of 37 candidates are in the fray for the elections to four Lok Sabha seats - Nabarangpur, Berhampur, Koraput and Kalahandi - which will go to the polls on May 13, they said.
In Odisha, elections for 21 Lok Sabha seats and 147 assembly segments will be held simultaneously in four phases from May 13 to June 1.
