Assam floods: 2 more die in taking death toll to 45, over 1 lakh people affected
Two more persons have died due to floods in Assam that have affected nearly 1.05 lakh people in five districts of the state, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said.
With this, the total number of flood-related deaths across the state has risen to 45 this year.
The number stood at 1.09 lakh in six districts till yesterday.
Currently, 145 villages are under water and 8,869 hectares of crop area has been damaged, it said.
The Brahmaputra river at Nimatighat in Jorhat, Dhansiri at Numaligarh in Golaghat and Jia Bharali at NT Road Crossing in Sonitpur are flowing above the danger mark, it said.
Massive soil erosions were witnessed at many places in Sonitpur, Barpeta and Sivasagar districts.
The floods have damaged embankments and roads in Lakhimpur, Morigaon, and Golaghat, it added.
