Less than a week after he was designated for assignment, infielder Adeiny Hechavarria has a new home.

The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired Hechavarria and cash considerations on Monday from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for right-handed pitcher Matt Seelinger.

Prior to being designated for assignment on Wednesday, Hechavarria hit .258 with three home runs and 26 RBIs in 61 games this season, starting 57 games at shortstop. On June 30, the defensive specialist saw his errorless streak end at 94 games and 319 total chances -- both Rays records for a shortstop.

Hechavarria debuted with Toronto in 2012 before spending the next four-plus seasons with Miami.
