Cases stalling inauguration of Jalpaiguri circuit bench

Kolkata, Aug 10 (PTI) West Bengal Chief Minister

Mamata Banerjee today said the government is eager to

inaugurate of the much-awaited Jalpaiguri circuit bench of

Calcutta High Court but institution of cases have stalled the

event.

Cases have been instituted in Calcutta High Court

questioning the inauguration of the circuit bench in a

temporary structure.

"We are willing to inagurate the bench. But somebody

has instituted cases against it at the Calcutta High Court.

The court has to decide it. It's now sub judice," Banerjee

told reporters here.

A petition was moved before the high court on July 26

questioning the propriety of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata

Banerjee's recent announcement that the circuit bench at

Jalpaiguri will be inaugurated on August 17.

Banerjee and a former Chief Justice of Calcutta High

Court Justice J N Patel had laid the foundation stone for the

circuit bench in September 2012. The circuit bench is to come

up on 40 acres given by the state government for the purpose.

The circuit bench is a long standing demand of north

Bengal residents.
