The Gautam Buddh Nagar administration will provide five free plants to farmers tomorrow as part of the Uttar Pradesh government's green initiative for the Independence Day, officials said.

"All farmers across the district can visit their nearest mandi tomorrow to get five saplings free of cost," District Magistrate Brajesh Narayan Singh said.

"The farmers can plant these saplings along their farms or around their houses. Besides the environmental benefits, the plants can later help them with wood and financially," he said, according to an official release.

The initiative is part of the Yogi Adityanath government's for enhancing green cover across the state on the Independence Day.

Principal Secretary, Agriculture, UP, Amit Mohan Prasad said the state government has decided to launch a massive afforestation drive on August 15.

"The Agriculture Department and the Mandi Parishad have joined hands to provide every farmer with five saplings each on August 14 to be planted on the Independence Day," Prasad said.

Separately, the Noida Authority is already gearing up to plant 86,725 saplings across the city on August 15.

The saplings will be planted at 37 locations, including parks, on the side of roads and under metro rail corridors, Noida Authority General Manager Rajeev Tyagi had said.
