The Los Angeles Angels acquired right-hander Odrisamer Despaigne from the Miami Marlins on Tuesday night in a cash transaction.

Despaigne, 31, was 2-0 with a 5.31 ERA in 11 games (one start) for the Marlins this season. He spent a month on the disabled list because of a right forearm strain and was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans in early June. He went 2-3 with a 4.36 ERA in 13 games (four starts) in the minors.

The Havana, Cuba, native is 13-21 with a 4.76 ERA in 98 career games (43 starts) with the Marlins, San Diego Padres and Baltimore Orioles. His best season came as a rookie in 2014, when he posted a 3.36 ERA in 16 starts with the Padres.

In a corresponding move, the Angels designated right-hander Dayan Diaz for assignment. The 29-year-old spent much of this season on the restricted list due to visa issues. He returned to go 1-0 with a 6.52 ERA in seven relief appearances for high Class-A Inland Empire.

In his most recent major league experience, Dayan went 1-1 with a 9.00 ERA in 10 games (one start) for the Houston Astros last year. He also made six relief appearances for the Cincinnati Reds in 2016, producing a 9.45 ERA.
