Japan have sent home four players from their men's basketball team at the 18th Asian Games for spending the night in a Jakarta hotel with women, head of the delegation Yasuhiro Yamashita said on Monday.
Following their game on Thursday, the quartet left the athletes' village to eat at a Japanese restaurant where they met an unidentified person and then checked into at a nearby hotel with the women, he said.
"The NOC (National Olympic Committee) Japan decided to withdraw their accreditation and send them back to Japan early this morning," Yamashita told a news conference.
"This is a disciplinary issue and I apologize to all Japanese people and those who are supporting us. I'm determined to avoid this kind of disciplinary issues."
