Every year, all of us witness the crowning of the most beautiful women out of few selected women from all around the globe titled as “Miss Universe”, “Miss World” and much more which are based on their natural beauty, IQ, overall personality and the way they carry themselves. There might be many more criteria which all of us are not totally aware of but the question here is if we really need such titles for our women. Isn’t it discrimination at its very best? What exactly beauty means?

It might be a great personal achievement for the winners and participants but we need to understand, these are international beauty pageants which were started by a British TV host “Eric Morley” in 1951 who belonged to the entertainment business, and this is all about entertainment/glamour or the related industries. These pageants shouldn’t be considered as a global phenomenon or national achievements. Each and every woman is beautiful in her own way. There shouldn’t be any discrimination based on their skin color and the personalities.

For me, Miss World is all those doctors and nurses who are helping the people in remote areas where people are in need of medical attention, all those teachers and trainers working worldwide in rural areas to spread knowledge. Organizations and individuals who are working selflessly to help farmers and promote agriculture and those who are working to improve the environment and other major issues such as poverty, population, and domestic violence.

We as a society need to acknowledge their work and efforts. Even in countries at peace, where women’s rights are largely respected, gender inequality remains prevalent; women are under-represented in both politics and business and are regularly paid less than men in the same positions. We are in an era where women are proving themselves rock strong in each and every aspect. Women all around the world should be respected and treated equally. There is no place for discrimination in the modern world and the new age of feminism.

Global organizations such as United Nations and WHO should run these campaigns and give these titles to the worthy ones who have contributed to making our world more beautiful. I think they are the real representatives of such titles and the real meaning of beauty should be defined in a similar manner.

Our youth should get inspirations from the real heroes at war front and that can only happen when we change our way of thinking now. Real heroes are not walking on the ramps and stages but on the fields, shining bright and facing the sunlight with eyes wide open, moving forward to create milestones on the pages of human history.

Note: This article isn’t against beauty pageants but about the mindset that common people have about it and that really needs to be changed.

"Let’s evolve further, let’s get smarter, and each of us must have their own thought process rather than being influenced by some legacy."
