Google Doodle celebrates Eugénie Brazier’s 123rd Birthday
She created her first restaurant, La Mère Brazier, in 1921, with the help of the French gastronomic critic Curnonsky.
Eugenie Brazier was born on June 12, 1895, in Ain. She grew up in the commune of Dompière sure Veyle, in the middle of Bressanes farms and surrounded by animals. At the age of 19, Eugénie moved to Lyon. She was hired as a nanny in a mansion and it is by chance, while the cook in the post falls sick, she becomes responsible for the family kitchen.

She created her first restaurant, La Mère Brazier, in 1921, with the help of the French gastronomic critic Curnonsky. Brazier had developed the Lyonnaise cuisine into a national phenomenon favored by the French elite, a tradition that Paul Bocuse later became a worldwide success.
Chef Brazier was also the first to obtain three Michelin stars for each of the two La Mère Brazier restaurants on Rue Royale and in the alpine foothills of the Col de la Luère, a unique achievement unmatched for 36 years. Her cuisine was famous, attracting a clientele such as Charles de Gaulle, Valéry Giscard d'Estaing, and Marlene Dietrich, who loved his Langouste Belle Aurore; a whole lobster bathed in brandy and cream. She founded the current line of the best French chefs in Lyon, including his student Paul Bocuse.
This great lady of French died in 1977 at the age of 81, leaving behind a huge gastronomic heritage, which still inspires many cooks today.
