Russia and Hellenic Republic will exchange views on international issues
The parties intend to pay special attention to interaction in trade and economic, investment and energy fields.
On June 12-14, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic, N. Kodzias, will pay a working visit to Moscow. On June 13, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov will hold talks with him, during which it is planned to consider the state and prospects of Russian-Greek relations in various fields.
The parties intend to pay special attention to interaction in trade and economic, investment and energy fields, to analyze the state of the legal basis of bilateral relations.
The approaches of Moscow and Athens on the majority of global and regional issues are close, in both capitals, they proceed from the need to resolve the emerging problems exclusively by political and diplomatic means. This creates a good basis for cooperation between the two countries within the framework of international organizations and forums.
We look forward to a useful exchange of views on international issues, including developments in the Middle East and Ukraine, the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Balkans. The topic of mutual interest is the protection of the Christian population of the Middle East region.
Joint efforts are being made to maintain high dynamics of political dialogue and implement agreements reached at the highest level, including the results of a meeting between the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and the Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic A. Tsipras "on the sidelines" of the International Forum "One Belt - one way "(Beijing, May 2017).
Despite the unfavorable international situation, it was possible to bring the trade turnover between the two countries on the trajectory of growth. As a result of 2017, trade between Russia and Greece increased by 27.4% to 3.7 billion US dollars. In 2018, this trend was maintained. A key role in the coordination of trade and economic interaction is played by the Joint Russian-Greek Commission for Economic, Industrial, and Scientific and Technical Cooperation, as well as the working groups created within its framework.
This year our countries celebrate two big jubilees: the 190th anniversary of diplomatic relations (September 6 (18), 1828) and the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on Friendship and Cooperation (June 30, 1993). At present, commemorative events timed to these dates are being worked out.
The flow of tourists from Russia to Greece has restored: in 2017 it reached 856.2 thousand people. The program of the Year of Tourism, implemented since September 2017, consolidated a positive impetus, which gave bilateral interaction the holding of the "cross" Years Russia-Greece in 2016.
The visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic to Moscow will undoubtedly serve to further deepen the fruitful Russian-Greek cooperation and mutual understanding in international affairs.
