Group E

Brazil (FIFA Rank-2)

Switzerland (FIFA Rank-6)

Costa Rica (FIFA Rank-26)

Serbia (FIFA Rank-25)

Group E will feature Five-time world Champion Brazil, along with Switzerland, Costa Rica, and Serbia. Brazil has lots of star players in the team and is arguably the team to beat across the entire tournament. In the group which team will emerge from the non-Brazil side will be worth watching.

The star power of the Brazilian team can be evaluated from the transfer fee club paid to get their services. Philippe Coutinho, Neymar Jr, Roberto Firmino, and Gabriel Jesus combined cost USD 520 million in the transfer market. The likes of Neymar, Jesus, Coutinho makes Brazil one of the favorites to lift the world cup in Russia.

While, the other teams Switzerland, Costa Rica, and Serbia in the group will try to shatter the hopes of the Brazilian fans. Under the coach Mladen Krstajić Serbia looked well organized in the attack in their qualifying campaign. Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic known as “The Sergent” in Italy, will be the key player for the team. Serbia will be looking forward to crossing the first hurdle of qualifying in the next round.

On the other hand, Switzerland will be depending on their quick attacking winger Xherdan Shaqiri to lead the forward. The team has both the capability to defend and attack against any team. Under the coach, Vladimir Petkovic team performed as a unit and they will be doing the same in the world cup.

Costa Rica under the coach Oscar Ramirez has built a solid defense and quick counter-attack strategy. The strategy helped them reach in the last eight of the world cup 2014, which says a lot about their ability to perform in the big stage. Their defense has a lot of quality with Real Madrid No.1 goalkeeper Keylor Navas, along with Giancarlo Gonzalez and Oscar Duarte in the defense.

Each team in this group has the quality to challenge mighty Brazil for the spot in the next round. But the real fight will be among the three non-Brazilian teams as anything less than nine-points for pre-tournament favorite’s Brazil would be a big disappointment.
