The Kenya Railways announced that it would start its commuter train service to the city centre from Monday, April 16. This will ease the traffic tension of the Nairobi residents living along Thika Road.

This will help to reduce the congestions along major roads and also at the bus station in and out of Nairobi’s business district, said State firm in a statement to the public.

It said on Tuesday that as a part of the ongoing efforts by the government to de-congest the Nairobi CBD, we should introduce a new commuter train service to ply the Kahawa-Nairobi Route.

The arrival time of the train in Kahawa would be 9 a.m. and will reach the city centre at 10:20 a.m. The commuters who have to catch the train from Nairobi will have to travel an hour to catch the same train at Kahawa.

For commuters who commute early in the morning, the problem might remain as the parts of the superhighways remains congested during these hours with non-stop traffic jams. To solve this issue there is a need to adjust the time schedules along this route.

The government tried to de-congest the road by introducing a dedicated Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) lane for large capacity buses.

Kenya Railways also runs commuter train services for Syokimau, Embakasi and Ruiru areas.
