June 21 is marked as World Music Day to mark the importance of music in everyone’s life. Music is a way of to bridge various cultures, genres and traditions. The day is also known by another name “Fete de la Musique” after a music festival held in France in 1982.

The idea of music through fest was conceived by the French minister of culture Jack Lang and the day since then celebrates music and is marked as World Music Day. Another legend that is associated with the day is about how the American musician Joel Cohen proposed the idea of an all-night music celebration in France so as to mark the beginning of summer solstice in 1976.

Every year various events are organized in more than 100 countries and 700 cities around the world. The world has seen uncountable people celebrating life through music. Frank Zappa expressing his love for music, once said: “Without music to decorate it, time is just a bunch of boring production deadlines or dates by which bills must be paid.”

Music not only is a source of entertainment but is a healthy exercise for the brain and soul as well. It consumes people, their cultures and their personal self. It’s a reflection of what one thinks. Stevie Wonder, American singer and Songwriter says: “Music, at its essence, is what gives us memories. And the longer a song has  existed in our lives, the more memories we have of it.”
