Senegal and Belgium sign 26 bn CFA francs cooperation program

The Senegalese government and the delegation of Belgium in Senegal signed a new cooperation program for the period 2018-2022 on Friday, with a financial commitment of about 26 billion CFA francs.  

"Today's meeting allows us to adopt a new cooperation program for the period 2018-2022 with a financial commitment of 39 million euros, or about 26 billion CFA francs," said the minister delegate to the Budget, Birima Mangara.

Mr. Mangara spoke at the opening of the 13th session of the Joint Technical Meeting on Development Cooperation between the Kingdom of Belgium and Senegal. 

According to him, this meeting "will also make it possible to make an exhaustive point of the state of our development cooperation and to make recommendations to improve the effectiveness of our cooperation". 

He said that the areas of concentration of this program, which "the areas of intervention concern the three regions of the pole of Sine-Saloum (Kaolack, Fatick, Kaffrine)", are "the promotion of sustainable entrepreneurship and the creation of decent jobs, the health of women ".

Birima Mangara also referred to the project to support the supply and demand of care services (PAODES) for which the commitment of Belgium amounted to 10.5 billion FCFA, the project of realization Basins of retention and valorization of boreholes (BARVAFOR), whose financial commitment amounted to 7.2 billion FCFA ".

He recalled that "the cooperation between our two countries began on July 1, 1968, and is today rich of about fifty years". 

"The particularity of compared to other European donors present in Senegal, is that Belgium in terms of its channel of government aid is 100 percent donation," said the head of the Belgian delegation, Bruno Van Der Pluijm.
