The Government of Canada is making significant investments to improve housing, reduce overcrowding, and improve quality of life for First Nation community residents.

Today, Jane Philpott, Minister of Indigenous Services, offered her congratulations to Cook's Ferry Indian Band in British Columbia on the completion of their new duplex project.

Through their comprehensive community plan, Cook's Ferry Indian Band identified a need for additional housing to accommodate their growing population. The Band began construction of the three duplexes in spring 2017. They were built using energy-efficient technologies and some of the units are wheelchair accessible.

Indigenous Services Canada contributed $1.5 million for the new housing.
