JBIC to help Thailand for development in infrastructure

Japan will take part in the development of the CLMVT countries in various fields, which will benefit the Greater Mekong Sub-region.

JBIC to help Thailand for development in infrastructure

The Prime Minister of Thailand Prayut Chan-o-cha meets Mr. Takeda Shimoda, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC). The JBIC Director reports on the progress of various projects under the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), such as the triple win scheme, which will benefit both Thailand, Japan, and China.

The Prime Minister is pleased to know that Japan and China are committed to working together on the development of infrastructure in third world countries, especially the high-speed rail project linking three airports. This will benefit regional cooperation of the countries. 

The Prime Minister expresses its gratitude to JBIC for the study of the Smart City in the EEC, which would be useful for the EEC development as a whole and requested that the JBIC closely consult with the Ministry of Transport and the EEC Secretariat. Progress and reiterated that Thailand is willing to support the private sector to participate in the EEC's projects.

JBIC's Director-General said that Japan will send high-level delegates to the ACMECS (Ayeyarwady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy) summit hosted by Thailand on 15-16 June. Japan will take part in the development of the CLMVT (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand) countries in various fields, which will benefit the Greater Mekong Sub-region. The meeting will announce the ACMECS master plan, consisting of three pillars, first, Strengthening seamless linkages in the sub-region. Second, funding for the establishment of the ACMECS Infrastructure Development Fund; and third Regional development in a sustainable and innovative manner. 

The Prime Minister reiterated JBIC's sharing of experience and understanding of the benefits of the JBIC projects, as public relations and public awareness are critical to the success of every project and the development of space. Especially the agricultural and pharmaceutical sectors, it also helps to track the progress of the Red Line, and investment in urban rail transit routes in Bangkok.
