Vietnam will take steps to prevent soil erosion in Mekong Delta region
There are 562 coastline sites with a total length of 786 km having soil erosion, 42 sites with extreme soil erosion with a length of 149 km.
Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) reported that there are 562 coastline sites with a total length of 786 km having soil erosion, 42 sites with extreme soil erosion with a length of 149 km.
The reports include that 26 river bank with the length of 65 km and 16 coastline areas with the length of 84 km needs immediate prevention actions, the required budget for the prevention of soil erosion in Mekong Delta will be around VND 6,990 billion.
MARD is suggesting establishing a plan on investigating and evaluating the status and proposing an overall solution to preventing soil erosion in coastline sites in the Mekong Delta, to ensure security for local people’s lives and regional infrastructure as well as limiting coastal erosion with the rate of 300 ha per year.
He highlighted that the planning of building new residential areas for the resettlement of people of the area and asked the ministry and localities to launch measures to implement the government's resolution on sustainable development in the Mekong Delta region.
He further said that the funding of the projects will be given from the state budget reserve for localities from the Mekong Delta. Office Development Assistance (ODA) resource will set up a climate change fund to construct a crucial project in the Mekong Delta.
