World Hepatitis Day: WHO focuses on Test. Treat. Hepatitis

World Hepatitis Day is being celebrated every year on 28 July with the aim of bringing together the whole world under one single theme to raise awareness of viral hepatitis and the impact it has worldwide.

This year was not an exception too and thus today the whole world came together and celebrated hepatitis day with the theme being “Eliminate Hepatitis”.

Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver. The condition can be self-limiting or may progress to diseases such as cirrhosis fibrosis etc. Hepatitis viruses are the most common causes of hepatitis over the world.

There are mainly 5 types of Hepatitis: A, B C, D, E. These 5 types of viral diseases have become the greatest concern for mankind with B and C becoming the major health challenges affecting 325 million people globally. They are the root cause of liver cancer, leading to 1.34 million deaths every year.

WHO has focused on “Test. Treat. Hepatitis. for World Hepatitis Day 2018 events.

In 2016, 194 governments adopted WHO’s global strategy on viral hepatitis which includes a goal of eliminating hepatitis B and C by 2030, yet only handful countries are in a track to fulfill it.

To celebrate the launch of World Hepatitis Day 2018 the World Hepatitis Alliance hosted a webinar to explain more about campaign and materials thereby trying to raising awareness amongst people.
