Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh today announced a grant of Rs 50 lakh for the construction of Gurdwara Sahib and Guru Nanak School, destroyed in a violence at Shillong in Meghalaya in May this year.
He assured all possible assistance to the Sikh community settled in Shillong.
The ministers thanked Amarinder Singh for his personal initiative in sending a high-level delegation to take stock of the situation in the wake of the arson and destruction of property belonging to Sikhs by some anti-social elements in Shillong.
Gurjit Singh said the move had helped instil a sense of belongingness and trust amongst the minority community living in Meghalaya.
Responding to the issues raised by the delegation, the chief minister assured them that he would soon take up the same with his Meghalayan counterpart to ensure the safety and security of Sikhs, besides maintaining the sanctity of their religious places.
