Famous book writer J.K. Rowling is also celebrating her birthday on same day.
Fans of Hogwarts are celebrating the 12th birthday of Harry Potter as it comes along with the birthday of its writer JK Rowling.
The writer of these most popular books and film franchises in history was born in Yate, near Bristol, a few miles south of a town called Dursley.
Rowling graduated from Exeter University and later she moved to Portugal in 1990 to teach English.
Rowling worked on her first book in the Harry Potter series while struggling to support her daughter Jessica and herself on welfare.
Harry Potter book idea reportedly occurred to her while she was travelling on a train from Manchester to London in 1990.
Book series chronicling the life of a young wizard Harry Potter at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry became a global hit and so do Rowling became a worldwide literary sensation in 1999 when the first three instalments of Harry Potter took over the top three slots of The New York Times best-seller list.
