Police arrests teacher for molesting minor girl in Ganjam

A high-school teacher was arrested today for allegedly molesting a girl in Odisha's Ganjam district, a police officer said.

In a complaint, the Class VII girl said yesterday that the teacher molested her on July 28 on the premises of her school, in Jagannath Prasad police station area of the district, he said.

The 12-year-old girl also claimed that the teacher, in his mid-40s, threatened her of "dire consequences" if she disclosed the matter, Anirudh Muduli, the inspector-in-charge of Jagannath Prasad Police Station, told reporters.

"The minor girl's mother told police that she learned to know about the incident the following day (June 29) when her daughter narrated the ordeal to her and refused to go to school," Muduli said.

The mother and the daughter approached the police yesterday, he said. Based on the girl's complaint, the police arrested the teacher today under different sections of the IPC and Protection of Child from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act, the IIC added.
