Romanian tennis player Simona Halep, world No. 1, said on Tuesday that tests confirmed she has a herniated disk in her back, which earlier this week forced her to pull out of the China Open.
The injury comes less than a month ahead of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) finals on October 21, but Halep did not specify if she would be fit to participate, reports Efe news.
"I will discuss with doctors in the next few days but hope to be back soon and will keep you updated. Thanks for all your support," Halep, 27, said via Twitter.
The Romanian star retired in the first round of the China Open on Sunday after losing the opening set to Tunisia's Ons Jabeur 6-1.
Halep, who suffered the injury during a workout last week, was top-seeded for the China Open and had won her first Grand Slam title at the French Open in June.
