With Greg Zuerlein still sidelined, the Los Angeles Rams made a change at the kicker position Tuesday.

The team released Sam Ficken, who had been filling in for Zuerlein, and replaced him with Cairo Santos.

Ficken, 25, missed two of his three field goal attempts while playing the last two games for the Rams (4-0). He was successful on all 10 of his extra point tries while taking over after Zuerlein sustained a groin injury prior to the Sept. 16 game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Ficken's only previous NFL experience was two games with the Rams last year, when he went 2 of 3 on field goal tries and 4 of 5 on extra points.

Santos, 26, has not appeared in a game this year. He split 2017 between the Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Bears, hitting 4 of 5 field goal attempts in five games. He spent the previous three years with the Chiefs. For his career, Santos is 90 of 107 (84.1 per cent) on field goal tries, 127 of 132 (96.2 per cent) on extra points.

Zuerlein, 30, booted four field goals in five tries in the opener against the Oakland Raiders. Coach Sean McVay said Monday that Zuerlein might be able to return Sunday to face the Seattle Seahawks, though the Tuesday move likely indicates a change in that perception.

Zuerlein is 154 of 186 (82.8 per cent) on field goal attempts for his career, 190 of 195 (97.4 per cent) on point-after touchdowns.
