Gareth Southgate to be incharge of England national team until 2022 World Cup

England coach Gareth Southgate has signed a contract extension that is set to tie him to his national team until after 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the English Football Association announced on Thursday.

Southgate, who was first appointed in November 2016, is now going to lead England through the next two major international events, the UEFA Euro 2020 and 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, reports Efe.

"I am delighted to have the opportunity to lead the national team through the next two major tournaments," Southgate said.

"The job remains an incredible privilege and a true honour. Experiencing at first-hand how the nation united behind the team this summer was something special and it will be great to see how far this young squad can go in the years to come," he added.

Meanwhile, the coach announced his line-up for England's upcoming UEFA Nations League clashes against Croatia on October 12 and Spain on October 15.

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jadon Sancho, 18, was included in Southgate's 25-man squad for the first time.

Squad:

Goalkeepers: Marcus Bettinelli (Fulham), Jack Butland (Stoke City), Alex McCarthy (Southampton) and Jordan Pickford (Everton).

Defence: Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez (Liverpool), Harry Maguire (Leicester City), Danny Rose, Kieran Trippier (Tottenham Hotspur), Luke Shaw (Manchester United), John Stones, Kyle Walker (Manchester City) and James Tarkowski ( Burnley).

Midfielders: Ross Barkley (Chelsea), Nathaniel Chalobah (Watford), Eric Dier, Harry Winks (Tottenham Hotspur), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool) and Mason Mount (Derby County).

Forwards: Harry Kane (Tottenham), James Maddison (Leicester City), Marcus Rashford, (Manchester United), Sancho (Borussia Dortmund), Raheem Sterling (Manchester City), Danny Welbeck (Arsenal).
