Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers returned to practice on Thursday and got in a full session for the first time in four weeks, but his top three wide receivers all remained out due to injuries.

It's the second week in a row that Rodgers has practised on Thursday following a missed Wednesday session, but he was limited last Thursday and Friday. After hurting his left knee in the opener, Rodgers practised only on Saturdays, on a limited basis, in Weeks 2 and 3 but did not miss a game.

However, receivers Davante Adams (calf), Randall Cobb (hamstring) and Geronimo Allison (concussion) all sat out again Thursday, raising doubt about their availability to face the Detroit Lions. Adams strained his calf during Wednesday's practice, head coach Mike McCarthy confirmed, two days after McCarthy said the team might need to scale back Adams' workload (he played all 76 snaps against the Bills on Sunday) moving forward.

Cobb missed Sunday's game after injuring his hamstring in last Thursday's practice, and Allison was concussed against the Bills.

Their absences left Rodgers with three rookies -- fifth-rounder Marquez Valdes-Scantling, fourth-rounder J'Mon Moore and sixth-rounder Equanimeous St. Brown -- as his top three options during Thursday's session.

"This is how the week goes sometimes," McCarthy said. "You have to have the ability to get in and out of personnel groups. It's a good experience for our young guys to get to play all the different positions."

Valdes-Scantling played 54 snaps vs. Buffalo, hauling in a 38-yard catch, and Moore saw 11 snaps, his first action as a pro after being inactive the first three weeks. St. Brown has dressed in just one game this season, seeing two special-teams reps in the opener.

Adams, Cobb and Allison have combined for 64 catches for 768 yards and six scores this season. Valdes-Scantling (two grabs for 41 yards) is the only other wideout on the roster with a reception, and tight end Jimmy Graham (one) is the only other player with a receiving touchdown.

On the bright side for the Packers, second-year corner Kevin King is expected to return from a groin injury this week after missing the last two games. He has practised in full both days this week.
