San Antonio Spurs rookie guard Lonnie Walker IV will require surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee, the team announced Saturday.
The tear was detected through an MRI exam. The Spurs said Walker will undergo surgery on Monday.
San Antonio said a timeline for Walker's return will be determined at a later date. However, ESPN reported Walker will miss six to eight weeks.
Walker suffered the injury during the fourth quarter of Friday's preseason game against the Detroit Pistons.
Walker was the 18th overall choice in the NBA draft. He played college basketball at Miami (Fla.).
