World Blood Donor Day event serves as a thank you note to every person who stands for donating blood and raises awareness for regular blood donation activities.
Every year on June 14 nations around the world celebrate this day with series of events and ensure the quality, safety, and availability of blood and blood products for those in need.
Officially established by the WHO with its 192 Member States in the month of May in 2005 at the 58th World Health Assembly, the World Blood Donor Day is marked in order to encourage all the countries worldwide to thank the blood donors for their precious step, promote voluntary, safe and unpaid blood donations to ensure the sufficient blood supplies.
The Blood donated by people gives support and treatment of the anaemic kids, anaemic women, accident victims with huge blood loss, cancerous patients, thalassemia patients, people suffering haemophilia, sickle cell anaemia, blood disorders, blood clotting disorders and many more.
The theme of this year's campaign is blood donation as an act of solidarity. Theme portrays the basic human values of respect, empathy, and kindness.
Slogan opted for the day is, "Give Blood Share life, Be there for someone" to draw attention towards the roles that voluntary donation systems play in encouraging people to care.
