At least six people were killed and 16 others injured in two separate road accidents in Nepal, police said today.

A jeep skidded off the hilly road in Panchpokhari area of Sindhupalchok district, 45 km east of the capital Kathmandu, killing five people and injuring eight others, police said.

The jeep was heading towards Manekharka from Tipeni. Three passengers died on the spot and two others succumbed to their injuries, police said.

All the deceased passengers were from Bhotang area in Panchpokhari Thangpal Rural Municipality.

The injured passengers have been taken to a hospital in Maharajgunj in Kathmandu.

In another incident, a 24-year-old-girl died and eight others were injured when a passenger bus fell into a river in Rukum district in western Nepal.

The bus was heading from Salle Buspark to Mulkhola area. Those injured have been admitted in the district hospital, police said.

Road accidents occur frequently in Nepal as the country has many mountainous roads which are mostly narrow.

Most accidents in Nepal occur due to poorly maintained vehicles and road conditions. PTI SBP MRJ
