One miscreant was beaten to death by villagers

One miscreant was beaten to death by villagers when he along with other accomplices was trying to collect levy in the name of an ultra organisation in Latehar district, police said today.

The deceased identified as Ranjit Ram along with his accomplices had come to Bariatu village late last night tocollect levy in the name of an ultra organisation "JJMP", police said.

Armed with firearms they asked a villager Jitendra Singh to open door of his house. As soon as Jitendra opened the door be was attacked with lathis by the miscreants, police said adding that another villager Virendra Singh rushed to rescue Jitendra but he too was beaten up.

Both Jitendra and Virendra received injuries in the incident and were rushed in a local hospital.

A large number of villagers assembled on the spot on hearing the screams and gheraoed the miscreants, who wanted to flee. The villagers caught hold of two miscreants and started eating them.

While Ram was beaten to death by the villagers, another miscreants was handed over to police. A police team reached the spot and recovered the body of Ram. The police said Ram has links with JJMP and used to collect levy in the name of JJMP.
