AirtelTigo welcomes Mobile Money Payment Interoperability (MMI) service in Accra

MMI provides an easy and convenient platform for cashless transactions with 24/7 access to funds in bank accounts and mobile wallets and further reduces reliance on cash.

After the successful launch of the Mobile Money Payment Interoperability (MMI) service in Accra by Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia on May 10, AirtelTigo welcomes MMI and congratulates the Bank of Ghana, the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems Limited (GhIPSS) and all stakeholders on the implementation of Mobile Money Interoperability.

MMI is the service which allows direct and seamless transfer of funds from one mobile money wallet to another across networks. It enables mobile money users of one network to directly and seamlessly send money to other mobile money users on other networks. 

“We welcome this giant step which will help our customers and all Ghanaians to enjoy increased convenience to send and receive money from one mobile wallet to another across networks in real time and reduce fraudulent transactions,” said the CEO for AirtelTigo, Ms. Roshi Motman.

“We believe this implementation will play a key role in enhancing the use of mobile financial services and deepen financial inclusion,” she added.

She encouraged innovation in the industry and said the company will continue to collaborate with the regulator – the Bank of Ghana and all other stakeholders to ensure the principles for interoperability are achieved.
