The Vice President of India, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu, will lay the Foundation Stone of Southern Campus building of the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, in the village of Kondapavuluru, Gannavaram Mandal, Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh.

The minister of State for Home Affairs Shri Kiren Rijiju and other representatives of the central and state government will attend the ceremony. The National Institute for Disaster Management (NIDM) is a top-level government institute under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The NIDM under the 2014 law on the reorganization of Andhra Pradesh, has established a campus in southern Andhra Pradesh. A temporary campus installation NIDM South is currently underway in the state from the campus of the Andhra Pradesh Human Resource Development Institute (APHRDI) in Bapatla, Guntur.

The State Government has allocated 10 acres of land to the NIDM for the establishment of its permanent campus in the southern Kondapavuluru village. The central government approved the construction of the south campus for a total cost of INR 36.76 million.

The NIDM South Campus will focus more on issues of land and local planning, last mile connectivity and the integration of disaster management in the objectives of sustainable development through its capacity building programs.

Southern Community NIDM will work to support the overall goal of resilience and capacity development of diverse stakeholders through its programs. There will be programs designed and developed with special emphasis on specific disasters in the southern states.

The geography of southern India plays an essential role in the design of NIDM programs, especially in coastal areas, the rocky terrain of the Deccan Plateau and the Western Ghats. It would be vital for NIDM Southern Campus to focus more on the needs of the risk profile of South India and to develop it as a center of excellence for this region.
