Alphonso's 2 goals and 2 assists help Vancouver past Minnesota

Alphonso Davies scored two goals and added a pair of assists as the host Vancouver Whitecaps doubled up Minnesota United 4-2 Saturday night at BC Place.
The Whitecaps (8-9-5, 29 points) earned their first points in three games. Vancouver also leapfrogged Minnesota in the Western Conference standings and now sits one point out of the final playoff slot. The Loons (9-12-1, 28 points) went without a win for the first time in four games as their road record fell to 1-9-0.

Yordy Reyna and Kei Kamara also scored for the Whitecaps.
Ibson and Abu Danladi scored five minutes apart for the Loons, closing the gap to 3-2 in the 87th minute. Darwin Quintero assisted on both Minnesota goals to extend his points streak to four games (three goals, six assists).
Davies earned an assist as Reyna opened the scoring in the 35th minute. But Reyna did most of the work as he kept the ball away from two defenders, eluded three more as he ran along the top of the Minnesota box and then put a shot between two defenders and just inside the left post.
Davies put the Whitecaps ahead 2-0 in the 56th minute as he intercepted a pass outside of the Minnesota box -- right after a Vancouver turnover. He deked his way straight through five defenders and then slid a shot between goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth's legs.
Kamara put the Whitecaps up 3-0 in the 64th minute as he converted a pass from Davies on a two-on-one -- only two minutes after coming off the bench as a substitute.
The Loons then threw a scare into the Whitecaps. Ibson spoiled Vancouver goalkeeper Stefan Marinovic's shutout bid in the 82nd minute as he headed in Quintero's corner kick from a sharp angle. Danladi scored from short range on a Quintero pass in the 87th minute.
But Davies eased fans' fears only two minutes later as he juked his way through defenders and lifted the ball into the top-right corner of the net for the final score.
