The activists of the students' wing of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee today clashed with the police while protesting against the increasing rate of unemployment in the state.

The Mahatma Gandhi Marg here turned into a virtual battleground after hundreds of student Congress activists took out a rally from Congress Bhawan here and marched towards Odisha Assembly.

After crossing the first barricade put up at Mahatma Gandhi Marg, the agitators were stopped by the police following which a scuffle ensued between them and the security personnel. More than 50 Congress workers, including former Chhatra Congress president Itish Pradhan, were detained by police.

"Both the state government and the central government have failed to address the unemployment problems. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made promises of generating 1 crore jobs every year. But, he has completely failed," Pradhan said.
