The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired relief pitcher Brad Ziegler from the Miami Marlins, both teams announced Tuesday.

The Marlins received minor league reliever Tommy Eveld in return for Ziegler, a right-hander with a sidewinding throwing motion.

This marks a return appearance for the 38-year-old Ziegler to Arizona, where he pitched from 2011 to 2016. He also has pitched for Oakland and Boston throughout his 11-year career.

He had his best year in 2015 in Arizona, when he had 30 saves and a 1.85 ERA in 68 innings pitched.

This season, Ziegler got off to a slow start and lost his job as the Marlins' closer. Since June 5, however, he has pitched 28 innings and recorded a 0.64 ERA. Overall he was 1-5 with 10 saves and a 3.98 ERA for Miami.

Eveld, 24, is a righty who Arizona chose in the ninth round in 2016. He is 3-2 with a 1.11 ERA in 35 appearances this season between Class-A and Double-A levels.

To make room on the 40-man roster for Ziegler, the D-backs transferred right-hander Shelby Miller to the 60-day disabled list. Miller had been on the 10-day DL since July 12 after suffering inflammation in his surgically repaired right elbow.

The 27-year-old had Tommy John surgery in May 2017 and was activated off the disabled on June 25 in an attempt to pitch in 2018. He is 0-4 with an 11.40 ERA in four starts this season.
