China awards scholarships to 29 Ethiopian students

The Government of China has provided twenty-nine Ethiopian university students with scholarships to pursue higher studies in China.

The scholarship will provide for graduate studies in Chinese universities in both science and social disciplines. Majority of the students are set for their doctoral studies.

Termed as one of the best partnerships in the world in all the diplomatic, cultural and economic arenas by Ethiopia’s Deputy Minister of Education Samuel Kifle, he further added on the strong relationship he is expecting out of this partnership with the help of 29 bright students who are all set to make the difference in Ethiopia’s future.

Commenting on the investment in human capital by the Ethiopian government and its commitment to strengthen access to higher education in the country, Kifle acknowledged the friendly contribution from China in filling the gaps as of now.

"I would like to thank the government of China and their people for supporting all our endeavors towards development, mainly in the education sector," he said.

The Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia, Tan Jian reiterated his country’s commitment of educational assistance towards African countries also remarked the meaningfulness and importance of the work.

Further noting on the strategic and cooperative partnership the two countries will be involved in, he calls on the scholarship recipients to serve as connecting bridges in people-to-people relations for the same.

Birhan Teka from Ethiopia's Aksum University, who is one of the recipients, also commended the opportunity.

"I have been looking for opportunities to further my doctoral education, which I had not been able to do since we don't have any academic institution in Ethiopia with Ph.D. in archaeology," she told Xinhua.

Birhan Teka, a worthy recipient of the scholarship from Ethiopia’s Aksum University expressed his boundless happiness in finally be able to proceed towards his doctoral education in Archaeology.

She commented on waiting for many years for an opportunity like this to come to her as there is no academic institution in Ethiopia with Ph.D. in her field.

She is also keen on improving her contribution to her country and people with the academic potential she would garner after the completion of her education in China.
