Construction work of Kampot International Port begins in Cambodia

In the first half of 2018, Cambodia witnessed approximately three million international tourists and is expected to receive close to 6.2 million tourists in the next year.

The Construction work of Kampot International Port began yesterday at 8:00 am. The work was presided over by Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, along with Cheav Tay, Kampot governor, representative of Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The Cambodian government received concessional loans from ADB to invest in relevant tourism infrastructure. The infrastructure of three coastal provinces will be done in order to improve waterway transportation, connectivity, thereby promoting tourism.

Thai Cambodian- Vietnam tourism will also be improved as new products will be created. The port is expected to improve quality of tourist services. It will also promote socio-economic development and will also make way for Cambodian maritime sector.

For the construction of Kampot's international tourist port, more USD 8 million has been financed by Asian Development Bank.

In the first half of 2018, Cambodia witnessed approximately three million international tourists and is expected to receive close to 6.2 million tourists in the next year.

Coastal areas alone had 3.2 miiliion tourists in the year 2017.

The new port project is expected to garner more tourist. The country is hoping to welcome close to seven million international tourists. More than one million direct jobs and millions of other indirect jobs will also be created.
