US Agency for International Development Administrator Mark Green met with Nepal Finance Minister Dr. Yuba Raj Khatiwada during which Administrator Green reaffirmed USAID's commitment to its strong partnership with Nepal.
The Administrator and Minister discussed how the US Indo-Pacific Strategy is aligned with the Government of Nepal's priorities of promoting a market-based economy, supporting good governance, and strengthening regional connectivity, all of which contribute to Nepal's journey to self-reliance and the Government of Nepal's vision of becoming a middle-income country by 2030.
At the ASEAN Regional Forum on August 4, Secretary Pompeo announced the intent to provide nearly $300 million in security assistance to improve security relationships across the Indo-Pacific region. This assistance includes $290.5 million in Foreign Military Financing (FMF) to strengthen maritime security, humanitarian assistance/disaster relief (HA/DR), and peacekeeping capabilities, and $8.5 million in International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INCLE) funds to counter transnational crime.
Administrator Green also encouraged the Government of Nepal to continue steps to enable a transparent regulatory environment.
