The African Development Bank Group and the Burkinabe Government signed, on Tuesday, August 28, 2018, in Ouagadougou, financing agreements for the Energy Sector Reform Support Program (PARSE). This financing, amounting to some CFAF 11.5 billion, was approved by the Bank's Board of Directors on July 18, 2018.

The PARSE aims to enable Burkina Faso to respond appropriately to the growing electricity needs of households and businesses, by supporting the new vision of the government in the field of energy, as reflected in the Sector Policy adopted in December 2017. vision, in line with the Bank's New Deal for Energy in Africa, is based on the diversification of the energy mix, the strengthening of the conventional energy generation fleet, the promotion of energy efficiency and the strengthening of energy efficiency. regional cooperation through the development of interconnections.

The program will usefully supplement two ongoing operations: the Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso peri-urban electrification project ( PEPU ), worth some 21 billion CFA francs, to expand the distribution network for to electrify the peripheral districts of these two principal cities of Burkina; and the North Dorsal project , worth about CFAF 39 billion, in partnership with Agence Française de Développement and the World Bank, for the construction of a very high voltage transmission line from Birmin Kebbi (Nigeria) to Ouagadougou via Niamey (Niger).

The African Development Bank's Country Manager in Burkina Faso, Pascal Yembiline, reiterated the Bank's commitment to support the Government's efforts to achieve the goal of universal access to energy: "The National Program is a reference framework adapted to lay the foundations of this inclusive approach to energy, "he said.

For her part, the Burkinabe Minister in charge of Economy, Finance and Development, who is also Governor of the Bank, Rosine H. Coulibaly Sory, expressed her great satisfaction, assuring that judicious use of resources will be made. made available, so that they benefit the people.
