Met predicts heavy rain in south Bengal from Wednesday

The Met department on Tuesday predicted heavy rain in south Bengal from Wednesday night owing to the formation of a low-pressure area over east central Bay of Bengal. 

The low pressure is likely to become more marked and concentrate into a depression by Wednesday night, the weatherman said. 

The system is likely to move west-northwestwards towards north Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha coasts during the period, the Met said. Rainfall in South Bengal may commence from Wednesday night and may continue till Saturday. Heavy rainfall is likely from Thursday in the districts of North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Midnapore, Howrah and Hooghly. 

All the districts of south Bengal are likely to experience heavy rain owing to the depression on Friday, the Met said. Fishermen were advised not to venture along and off West Bengal, Odisha coasts and towards Bangladesh coasts from September 19 to 21, the weatherman said. 

The southern districts of the state, which have not experienced much rainfall over the last two weeks, have witnessed a significant rise in day and night temperature in the range from 3 to 5 degrees Celsius. 

The maximum day temperature in Kolkata on Tuesday was recorded at 36.5 degree Celsius, which is four notches above normal.
