The St. Louis Cardinals sent minor league outfielder Oscar Mercado to the Cleveland Indians before Tuesday's non-waiver trade deadline in return for outfielders Conner Capel and Jhon Torres.

Mercado, 23, was the Cardinals' second-round pick in 2013 and saw his first Triple-A action this year. He batted .285 with eight homers, 42 RBIs and 31 stolen bases in 100 games with Memphis.

Capel, 21, is the son of former major league pitcher Mike Capel and was a fifth-round pick by the Indians in 2016. He hit .261 with six homers, 44 RBIs and 15 stolen bases in 89 games with Class-A Lynchburg.
