The government today said it will seek a legal opinion if a person can sing a song of any singer in karaoke and upload it on social media.

Minister of State for Commerce and Industry C R Chaudhary informed the Lok Sabha that a complaint has been received regarding blocking a Facebook account holder for singing and recording songs in karaoke and uploading it on the social network.

He was replying to a question whether a person can sing a song of any singer in karaoke, record it as a hobby in friends, social function and upload it on social media.

"The issue is under examination, for which legal opinion will be sought," he said.

Replying to a separate question, he said Kerala has proposed to set up a company on the lines of Cochin International Airport to promote value addition to ensure better prices for rubber growers.

"The state's government of Kerala has proposed setting up a company on the lines of Cochin International Airport Ltd. to promote value addition so as to ensure better prices for rubber growers," he added.
