The decomposed body of a 17-year-old boy, who went missing on July 31, was found floating in the Chambal river under the Hanging Bridge here, police said today.
The victim, identified as Abhishek Valmiki, was a resident of Haryana's Sonipat district and was preparing for the National-Eligibility-Cum-Entrance Test (NEET) at a private coaching institute here, they said.
The boy went missing from his hostel in Balakund area under the Dadabari police station here on July 31 and his body was found floating in the river last evening, Sub Inspector Satyanarayan Sharma said.
Police primarily suspect it to be a case of suicide, although no suicide note was found, he added.
The body was handed over to the family members after postmortem this morning, the SI said.
The deceased had left his hostel room on the morning of July 31 but did not return till late night, following which the hostel caretaker informed his parents in Sonipat and lodged a missing report at the Dadabari police station the next day, the SI said.
Initial investigation suggests that it is a case of suicide as no marks of injury or wounds were visible on the body, Sharma said, adding that no suicide note was found in his possession or his hostel room. "He is most likely to have drowned," he further added.
A case was lodged under section 363 and further investigation was underway, the SI said.
