Captain Victor Wanyama converted a second-half penalty as Kenya sealed a 3-0 home victory over Ethiopia on Sunday to boost their chances of qualifying for next year’s African Nations Cup finals.

Kenya now tops Group F with seven points from four matches and are well placed to fill one of the top two places in the group which will ensure participation in next June’s tournament in Cameroon.

It was an emphatic win for Kenya in front of a 60,000 capacity crowd after the government allowed free entry to the Moi International Sports Centre in Nairobi.

Kenya was a goal ahead after Mike Olunga’s shot was deflected into the net in the 23rd minute followed by a second from Eric Johanna four minutes later.

Toni Silva scored a 61st-minute winner as Guinea Bissau came from a goal down at halftime to beat Zambia 2-1 and take over top place in Group K.

Silva’s goal ensured the home team moved to seven points, three ahead of the other three countries in the group.

Justin Shonga handed Zambia in a 13th-minute lead but Stoppila Sunzu turned the ball into his own net after the break for an equaliser, followed soon after by the winner.
