The US-Israel joint proposal gets the funding from BIRD energy. It has announced its tenth funding cycle for the project proposals. The focus is on the Renewable energy and Energy Efficiency.

The projects proposal to be considered by the BIRD energy group requires Research and Development cooperation between two companies or it could be between a research institute or a company (one from Israel and one from the US).

Other points that proposal should reflect are the scope for substantial commercial potential and also the outcome of the project should also be good in terms of commercialization.

The BIRD Foundation has mention few research and development topics as examples which includes, Water-Energy Nexus, Advance Manufacturing, Smart Grids, Advanced Vehicle Technologies and Alternative fuels, Solar and Wind power or any other potential Energy Efficiency or Renewable Energy technology.

The grant for the joint is maximum of USD 1 million per project or up to 50% of the research and development costs.

In 2014, the US Congresses passes a law, promoting the strategic partnership, which helped the two countries strengthening their US-Israel energy cooperation.

"This kind of collaboration will be mutually beneficial and allow both countries to achieve their economic and security energy goals." US Energy Secretary Rick Perry said to a newspaper.

Dr. Eitan Yudilevich, Executive Director of the BIRD Foundation, said: "We are pleased to encourage joint U.S.-Israel projects relating to green energy and energy efficiency. This is the tenth year that the BIRD Energy program has been working to promote technological developments in the renewable energy sector. Since the beginning of the BIRD Energy program, 42 projects have been approved, several of which are starting to generate commercial success and initial sales."

BIRD Energy, which was established due to the agreement between US Department of Energy and the Israel Ministry of Energy and Water Resource.
