The Council has asked a new proposal for a new EU strategy for the implementation of Paris agreement to the Commission.

EU requires the new strategy on curbing greenhouse gas emission said European council. The council adopted the conclusion on 22nd March.

"The European Council invites the Commission to present by the first quarter of 2019 a proposal for a Strategy for long-term EU greenhouse gas emissions reduction in accordance with the Paris Agreement, taking into account the national plans," one of the adopted conclusions reads.

EU leaders insisted on new long-term strategy for climate change and timeline for the same has been set for 2019. This indicates the importance of Paris Agreement for the EU.

The Director of Climate Action Network (CAN) Europe has also indicated this as an important step towards reaching the climate target. He also emphasized on the need of outlining efforts to keep the global temperature rise in check set in Paris Agreement. He also said that the climate target set would not be insufficient and will be required to review in future.

This call for action by the EU leaders was the first time after the Paris Agreement. Climate action is a global phenomenon and all the countries have to work in accord to keep the climate change below 2 degrees. The aim should not be more than 1.5-degree rise.

According to researchers the global warming and climate change phenomenon is dangerous for humankind, it not only has the potential to melt the glaciers and bring thunderstorms due to climate variation, but it may also extinct the entire humankind.
