The governmentt of Malawi to distribute 10.9 million mosquito nets to its people across the country. The distribution process will be done in collaboration with World Vision International later this year.
The announcement was made during the District Malaria meeting held in Dowa by District Environmental Health officer(DEHO), Mabvuto Thomas. According to him, the government has procured 10,958,223 insecticidal nets to combat vector born diseases countrywide.
According to DEHO, the distribution exercise will be done in phases and internals. The first distribution phase will provide nets in the Southern Region Districts in September. The second phase will cover the Central Region in October and the Northern Region will be covered in the third phase in November.
The workers and volunteers will walk door to door and will cover every single house. The door to door registration will also be done of the beneficiaries.
Mr Thomas said that World Vision International will work hand in hand with District Health Management Team and District taskforce to complete the phases with proper guidance and instructions.
According to DEHO, District Taskforce has been given the responsibility to monitor the registration process carefully and to make sure the distribution is being done in a systematic way.
He also added as for DHO, bylaws will also be made to make sure that the nets are used for the purpose they are being given and reports regarding the misuse for covering vegetable gardens and fish will also be taken care of.
