Ethiopia as a home to livestock is one of the largest populations in the world. To further increase production, the government through its "Livestock Master Plan" intends to refine the sector to better its production and export of livestock products. The plan as the government says is intended to generate foreign currency.

The LMP also helps the government to deal with increasing number of consumers both in the local and international market.

The government's investment in meat processing esp. for those which are focused on "exporting value-added products" have proved to be successful. According to the government, citing the profits, many companies have invested in Ethiopia's sector.

Ethiopia is currently going strong with its mutton, goat meat and beef export, especially to the Middle East.

Ethiopia's investment opportunities in feed, genetics and veterinary care are expected to grow in the future, as per the government reports.

Even after profitable and qualified breeds in Ethiopia, the country is facing challenges in terms of export in large quantity to the middle east and Europe because of the outbreak of various contagious diseases.

The government took various preventive measures to prevent the outbreak of diseases in veterinary treatment in Ethiopia. The preventive actions helped the country to control and manage the after effect of infectious diseases.

The nation is working towards to eliminate and reduce diseases from its area. The government has been providing vaccines in collaboration with FAO.
