An elephant killed his mahout in

Satkosia Wildlife Sanctuary in Angul district Thursday, the

police said.

The victim was identified as Sudhir Pradhan (45).

The incident took place near Purunakot Forest Range office

where Pradhan had gone to feed the elephant named 'Yoshoda'.

While feeding, the female elephant suddenly picked him

up with her trunk and slammed him on the ground killing him on

the spot, the police said.

The forest officials later controlled the elephant.

The forest department had brought 'Yashoda' from the

Chandaka Wildlife Sanctuary to the Satkosia Sanctuary on

October three.
