Japanese Finance Minister Taro Aso said on Thursday the country must "definitely avoid" bilateral trade negotiations with the United States.

"When two countries negotiate, the stronger country gets stronger. That's unnecessary (for Japan) so we've been saying all along that we would definitely avoid" bilateral trade talks with the United States, Aso told parliament.

Aso, who is also deputy prime minister, has been heading Japan's delegation for bilateral economic dialogue with the United States.

It is also worth mentioning in this context that Japan is no longer in deflation but consumer prices still have not reached the Bank of Japan's 2 percent inflation target, one of the Bank of Japan's two new deputy governors said on Tuesday.

Masayoshi Amamiya, newly appointed as deputy governor to the BOJ, also told reporters that he wanted to measure both the benefits and side-effects of the BOJ's quantitative easing.
