Kerr says Curry closer to Warriors return

The Golden State Warriors are closer to getting their All-Star point guard back in the lineup.

Stephen Curry, who has missed the team's last eight games because of a strained left groin muscle, is poised to return to action at some point during the Warriors' five-game road trip that starts Thursday in Toronto.

Head coach Steve Kerr updated media members before his team's Saturday game against Sacramento, explaining that Curry is "anxious" to get back on the court with the team.

"He's doing much better," Kerr told reporters. "We're just going to keep taking it day by day. And Rick [Celebrini, Warriors director of sports medicine and performance] feels very strongly that he'll play on the road trip."

Kerr said that Curry, 30, had shown progress in a follow-up exam and plans to intensify his work on the court this week.

Golden State has gone 3-5 since Curry has been out and enters Saturday at 13-7 this season, fourth in the Western Conference.

Despite playing in just 12 games, Curry is averaging an NBA-best 29.5 points per game this season and shooting what would be a career-high 51.5 percent from the floor.
